Geochemical Perspectives Letters in Web of Science

We are delighted to announce that Geochemical Perspectives Letters (GPL) has been accepted for inclusion in the Science Citation Index Expanded and is now indexed in Web of Science (WoS), the world's oldest citation index and a highly valued resource for researchers. GPL’s impact factor is therefore expected in June 2019.

GPL's acceptance into WoS marks an important milestone for the journal, reflecting the growing international recognition it has received since its launch in 2015. The editorial board would like to thank all the readers, authors, reviewers and editors who have contributed towards its success.

Elements October issue: Deep-Ocean Mineral Deposits

Ferromanganese nodules/crusts and seafloor massive sulfides are a unique feature of the deep-ocean seafloor. These deep-ocean mineral deposits are windows into Earth's processes, revealing clues to the evolution of seawater and ancient ore-forming processes. They also represent significant metal resources that could contribute future raw materials supply. The articles in this issue explore the formation of deep-ocean mineral deposits; their inherent scientific value; and the geological, technical, environmental and economic challenges, as well as regulatory and philosophical questions, of extracting such mineral resources.

Current EAG members will soon receive their print copies of Elements. Members also have online access to all back issues (user id = email address, password = EAG membership number). To find your membership number, login to your member area.

Transition metal availability to speleothems controlled by organic binding ligands

Speleothems are important archives of Quaternary palaeoclimate. However, climate proxies based on trace elements in speleothems are currently limited to the metals which exhibit simple partitioning (Mg2+, Sr2+, Ba2+). This study aims to expand understanding of the processes controlling the...

Plume-lithosphere interaction, and the formation of fibrous diamonds

Fluid inclusions in diamond provide otherwise inaccessible information on the origin and nature of carbonaceous fluid(s) in the mantle. Here we evaluate the role of subducted volatiles in diamond formation within the Siberian cratonic lithosphere. Specifically, we focus on the halogen (Cl, Br and...

A stochastic sampling approach to zircon eruption age interpretation

The accessory mineral zircon is widely used to constrain the timing of igneous processes such as magma crystallisation or eruption. However, zircon U-Pb ages record zircon crystallisation, which is not an instantaneous process. Zircon saturation calculations link zircon crystallisation...

Redox state of the convective mantle from CO2-trace element systematics of...

The redox state of mantle lithologies, based on xenoliths from continental lithospheric mantle, has been shown to decrease with depth and reach oxygen fugacities (fO2) at which graphite/diamond will be the stable form of carbon at pressures greater than about 3-4 GPa (e.g., Frost and...
