A family-friendly conference
The conference welcomes the families of its delegates. For those coming to Barcelona with their children, subsidised childcare will be provided onsite, with a full program of activities for 6-month to 12-year-olds. Places must be reserved in advance and space is limited to 20 places per session, so be sure to book early.

Filip Meysman named Berner lecturer
The European Association of Geochemistry and the Geochemical Society are pleased to announce that Prof. Filip Meysman (University of Antwerp, Belgium) will present the 2019 Robert Berner Lecture at the Goldschmidt2019 conference in Barcelona. Filip is coordinator of the Microbial Electricity Research Group and his research focuses on topics in marine biogeochemistry, including the fascinating electrogenic marine micro-organisms. Details of the lecture will be available in April.

The EAG joins the EGU in support of the European Research Council
Following the recent announcement of changes to the European Commission’s Research and Innovation Directorate General, the European Association of Geochemistry (EAG) has joined the European Geosciences Union in expressing its strong support of the European Research Council and the unique ability that it currently has to respond directly and independently to the needs of the scientific community. If you are attending the EGU2019 General Assembly in Vienna next month, be sure to check out the EAG co-organised sessions taking place across a range of themes, including Geochemistry, Mineralogy, Petrology and Volcanology, Biogeosciences, and Educational and Outreach Symposia. All delegates are welcome to visit the EAG at Booth 17 in the Entrance Hall.

New EAG membership rates for scientists from lower- and lower-middle-income-economy countries
In support of geochemists from less economically advantaged regions of the world, reduced 1-year membership rates are now available for students and professionals residing in countries classified as lower- or lower-middle-income economies by the World Bank (see here for the current list of countries in these categories). To benefit, select the low-income economy membership type when you join the EAG or renew your membership. Students: 10 euros. Professionals: 20 euros.

2019 EAG-GS Outreach lecturer visits Egypt
2019 EAG-GS Outreach Lecturer, Prof. Hasnaa Chennaoui Aoudjehane (Hassan II University of Casablanca) has been touring universities and institutes across Africa this spring. Following her trip to Mauritania in January, Hasnaa was in Cairo, Egypt, earlier this month to run a workshop on "Meteorites of Morocco and the Arab world" at the National Research Centre. Keep an eye out in future newsletters for news of Hasnaa's upcoming seminars and workshops.
